J. R. Handley

J.R. Handley is the pen name of a family writing team built around a combat veteran who served as an infantry sergeant with the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne and 28th Infantry Divisions. After sustaining a traumatic brain injury and PTSD during deployments to Iraq, he began writing military science fiction as part of a doctor-prescribed therapeutic program. He writes the primary drafts, while a family friend helps with editing to work around the effects of his injury and his mother manages substantive editing and publishing logistics. His main body of work is the Sleeping Legion series, and he has also contributed to the shared Galaxy's Edge universe, including stories in its Order of the Centurion line, plus standalone novels such as Breach Team and Ghostship Derelict. Handley credits fellow indie military-SF writer Tim C. Taylor as an inspiration for his move into independent publishing.
