Jake Saunders

Jake Saunders is an American writer and comic-book retailer from Oklahoma. As part of a fan group known as the Texas Trio, he published the fanzine Star-Studded Comics from 1963 to 1972, which carried early work by future professionals including George R. R. Martin and Jim Starlin, before founding Lone Star Comics, a Texas comic-shop chain, in 1977. As a fiction writer, Saunders collaborated with Howard Waldrop on The Texas-Israeli War: 1999 (1974), an alternate-history war novel expanded from their earlier short fiction, and was a 1976 Nebula Award nominee for a story co-written with Waldrop and Steven Utley. He later returned to fiction with novels extending Edgar Rice Burroughs's creations, including The Martian Legion and Tarzan and the Cannibal King, carrying forward the Tarzan universe he had grown up reading.
