James C. Glass is an American science fiction author and physicist born in 1937 in Los Angeles. Much of his fiction blends hard science-fiction concepts with adventure, most notably in the Shanji series, beginning with the novel Shanji (1999) and continuing through Empress of Light (2001) and The Creators (2003), which follow a marooned scientist navigating an alien world governed by a rigid caste system. His other novels, including Branegate (2012), Synths (2018), and Sedona Conspiracy (2011), range across space opera, science-fiction western, and near-future thriller settings, and he has also published several collections of short fiction, such as Imaginings of a Dark Mind and Strange Worlds, Near and Far.
