James Patrick Kelly

James Patrick Kelly is an American science fiction writer born in 1951 in Mineola, New York. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame and attended the Clarion Workshop before building a career centered on short fiction for magazines such as Asimov's Science Fiction, alongside novels including Wildlife and, with longtime collaborator John Kessel, Freedom Beach. His novella Burn won the Nebula Award, and his short fiction has also won a Hugo Award, with further Hugo and Nebula nominations across works such as the novelette Think Like a Dinosaur. Kelly and Kessel have also co-edited anthologies, including Rewired and Feeling Very Strange. He taught for years in the Stonecoast MFA program at the University of Southern Maine and has served on New Hampshire's state council on the arts.
