Jane S. Fancher

Jane Fancher is an American writer of science fiction and fantasy, born in 1952 in Renton, Washington. She began her career as an artist, drawing for the Elfquest comics in the early 1980s, before turning to prose fiction. Her work includes the fantasy trilogy Dance of the Rings and the Groundties series, and she has long collaborated with her wife, author C.J. Cherryh, with whom she co-founded the online publishing house Closed Circle alongside Lynn Abbey. Their joint novel Alliance Rising (2019), set in Cherryh's Alliance-Union universe, won the 2020 Prometheus Award for Best Novel; they continued the story in Alliance Unbound (2024). Fancher holds self-described "virtual degrees" in physics and anthropology from Washington State University and lives in Spokane.
