Janet Lunn

Janet Lunn (1928-2017) was a Canadian children's author born Janet Louise Swoboda in Dallas, Texas, who became a Canadian citizen in 1963. She attended Queen's University, where she met her husband, and worked as children's editor for Clark, Irwin Publishers from 1972 to 1975. Her debut, Double Spell (1968), launched a career that included The Root Cellar (1981) and Shadow in Hawthorn Bay (1986); her novel The Hollow Tree won the 1998 Governor General's Award for children's literature. Lunn was the first children's author to chair the Writers' Union of Canada and received the Vicky Metcalf Award, the Order of Ontario, and the Order of Canada.
