Jeff Brown (1926-2003) was an American children's author best known for creating Flat Stanley. The original book, published in 1964, began as a bedtime story Brown told his sons; he waited nineteen years before returning to the character, eventually writing five further books, including Stanley and the Magic Lamp, Stanley in Space, and Stanley's Christmas Adventure. By the time of Brown's death, the series had sold nearly a million copies in the United States and been translated into French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, and Hebrew. Other authors, including Sara Pennypacker, have continued the character since under the Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures banner.
