Jessica Cluess is an American author of young-adult fantasy, a graduate of Northwestern University who worked as a coffee server and a writing instructor at Writopia Lab before her debut novel found a wide readership. She is known for the Kingdom on Fire trilogy, beginning with A Shadow Bright and Burning, which follows one of the few women capable of wielding magic in a Victorian England besieged by monstrous forces, and continuing through A Poison Dark and Drowning and A Sorrow Fierce and Falling. She later returned to the same world with the companion novel House of Dragons. Cluess moved to Los Angeles after college and has described herself, in her own words, as 'an unapologetic nerd' who spends her days writing.
