Jody Scott

Jody Scott (1923-2007) was an American science fiction author born in Chicago. Publishing relatively little but leaving a lasting cult reputation, she is best known for Passing for Human (1977), a satirical, genre-bending novel blending feminist critique, aliens, and metafictional playfulness, later regarded as the first of a loose sequence sometimes called the Benaroya Chronicles. Its sequel, I, Vampire (1984), followed a female vampire protagonist and used the figure to skewer various forms of exploitation and predation. A long-planned third book, Devil-May-Care, was considered too unconventional for commercial publication in the 1980s and was not published until 2016, after her death. Scott also contributed short fiction to The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction and, early in her career, co-wrote the noir thriller Cure It with Honey (1952).
