Joe Bonadonna is an American writer of sword-and-sorcery and pulp adventure fiction. His best-known creation is Dorgo the Dowser, a hardboiled supernatural detective in a sword-and-sorcery world, who appears across stories collected in The Weird Tales of Dorgo the Dowser and later novels such as Dorgo the Dowser and the Order of the Serpent, published through the pulp-focused Pulp Hero Press. Bonadonna also writes planetary adventure, including the Three Against the Stars series, and has contributed original fiction to the long-running shared-world Heroes in Hell anthology series alongside writers such as Janet Morris. Beyond his own fiction, he is an active critic and reviewer of heroic fantasy, writing genre commentary for outlets including Black Gate magazine. His work is rooted in the pulp tradition of early-to-mid-20th-century adventure fiction, updated with a wry, hardboiled sensibility.
