John Connolly is an Irish author born in Dublin in 1968. He is best known for the long-running Charlie Parker series, following a former police detective turned private investigator through cases that blend hardboiled crime writing with supernatural menace, and for The Book of Lost Things, a dark fairy-tale novel about a grieving boy drawn into a world built from old stories, later followed by The Land of Lost Things. He has also written the comic horror trilogy featuring the demonologist Samuel Johnson and the Nocturnes story collections. A former journalist, Connolly has published more than thirty novels and has had more UK Sunday Times top-ten hardback bestsellers than any other Irish author. His work has won the Edgar, Anthony, Shamus, and Macavity awards, a CWA Dagger, and an Irish Book Award.
