John Harwood

John Harwood is an Australian novelist, born in 1946 in Hobart, Tasmania, and the son of the poet Gwen Harwood. He studied at the University of Tasmania and Cambridge, and worked as an academic at Flinders University until 1997, when he left to write full time. His debut novel, The Ghost Writer, won the International Horror Guild Award for Best First Novel and the Dracula Society's Children of the Night Award, and was longlisted for the Miles Franklin Award. He followed it with The Seance, which won the Aurealis Award for Best Horror Novel, and later The Asylum. Harwood also has a career as a poet and literary critic.
