John J. McGuire (1917-1981) was an American science fiction author born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, best known for his collaborations with fellow writer H. Beam Piper. Together they wrote the novel Lone Star Planet, also published as A Planet for Texans, as well as short fiction including 'The Return,' 'The Queen's Messenger,' and 'Testing.' McGuire's solo novel Null-ABC was later reissued as Crisis in 2140. Much of his work with Piper, including their joint short fiction, has since been gathered in collected editions such as The Collected Works of Henry Beam Piper and John Joseph McGuire, published in 2007.
