John Lanchester

John Lanchester is a British novelist and journalist born in 1962 in Hamburg, West Germany, and raised partly in Hong Kong. A contributing editor at the London Review of Books, he writes widely on finance, technology, and culture for The Guardian, The New Yorker, and other publications. His debut novel The Debt to Pleasure won the Whitbread Book Award in 1996, and Capital, a state-of-the-nation novel set around the 2008 financial crisis, was adapted for BBC television. In the catalog he appears for The Wall, a 2019 climate-change dystopia in which a vast concrete barrier encircles Britain against rising seas and the 'Others' trying to cross it, a novel longlisted for the Booker Prize. Lanchester was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2002.
