Jon Berkeley

Jon Berkeley is an Irish illustrator and children's author born in 1962 in Dublin, who worked as an illustrator in London, Sydney, and Hong Kong before settling in Barcelona in 1997. His editorial illustration has appeared in Time, The Economist, and The Washington Post, including a widely republished 2003 Economist cover on obesity. Berkeley's debut children's book, Chopsticks (2005), preceded his best-known work, the Wednesday Tales trilogy — The Palace of Laughter, The Tiger's Egg, and The Lightning Key — a circus-themed fantasy sequence shortlisted for the CBI Bisto Award and illustrated by Brandon Dorman under a six-figure advance from HarperCollins. He followed it with The Hidden Boy, opening the Bell Hoot Fables series. Berkeley continues to combine his visual art career with novel writing for young readers.
