Joseph Bruchac

Joseph Bruchac (born 1942) is an American writer and storyteller from Saratoga Springs, New York, who has published more than 120 books, many drawing on Abenaki and other northeastern Native American traditions and history. After teaching in Ghana and at Skidmore College, he became a full-time writer in 1981, and his fiction includes the supernatural Skeleton Man series for younger readers, the post-apocalyptic Killer of Enemies, and the historical Dawn Land and its sequel Long River. His children's biography Jim Thorpe's Bright Path won the Carter G. Woodson Book Award, and his broader body of work, including the novel Code Talker, has earned him a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Native Writers' Circle of the Americas and an American Book Award.
