Josephine Saxton

Josephine Saxton (born Josephine Mary Howard, 1935, in Halifax, West Yorkshire) is an English feminist science fiction writer. Her first novel, The Hieros Gamos of Sam and An Smith (1969), was followed by Vector for Seven and Group Feast, and she later published The Travails of Jane Saint, a satirical fantasy sequence continued in further Jane Saint stories. Her 1986 novel Queen of the States was nominated for both the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the BSFA Award for Best Novel. Saxton's fiction is known for its surreal, interior explorations of identity and gender within speculative frameworks. In 2023 she received the Cordwainer Smith Rediscovery Award, honoring underread science fiction writers.
