Julia Jarman

Julia Jarman is a British author born in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, in 1946. She studied English and drama at Manchester University and trained as a teacher before publishing her first book, When Poppy Ran Away, in 1985. She is best known for the Time-Travelling Cat series, which sends its feline heroine through historical settings including ancient Egypt, Roman Britain, Tudor England, Viking-age Britain, and the Victorian era, in titles such as The Time-Travelling Cat and the Egyptian Goddess (1992) and The Time-Travelling Cat and the Roman Eagle (2001). Her novels Hangman, Peace Weavers, and Ghost Writer each received Carnegie Medal nominations, and she has won the Stockton Schools Book Award multiple times. She later wrote picture books, including Big Red Bath, after the birth of her grandson.
