Julie Murphy

Julie Murphy is a #1 New York Times bestselling American author, born in 1985, who lives in Texas. She is best known for her contemporary young adult novels, including her breakout Dumplin' (2015), later adapted into a Netflix film, but she has also written licensed tie-in fiction: Faith: Taking Flight (2020) and Faith: Greater Heights (2021) retell the origin story of the plus-size superhero Faith Herbert for Valiant Comics, and she has written the middle-grade Camp Sylvania books. Murphy, who is openly bisexual, worked as a librarian before her writing career took off, and her fiction across audiences and formats consistently centers body image, identity, and characters underestimated by the people around them.
