Juliet E. McKenna is an English fantasy author born in 1965 in Lincolnshire. She studied Greek and Roman history at Oxford before working in bookselling and personnel management, experience she later drew on for her fiction. Her debut series, The Tales of Einarinn, launched with The Thief's Gamble (1999) and established the epic fantasy world of Einarinn that she has returned to across several further sequences, including The Aldabreshin Compass, The Chronicles of the Lescari Revolution, The Hadrumal Crisis, and the ongoing Green Man books. She also writes historical mysteries under the pen name J. M. Alvey. McKenna won the Karl Edward Wagner Award for special achievement in 2015 and the BSFA Award for best novel in 2023 for The Green Man's Quarry. She lives in Oxfordshire with her family and serves as a contributing editor for Albedo One magazine.
