Juliette Wade

Juliette Wade is an American science fiction author, linguist, and anthropologist with a Ph.D. in Education from UC Berkeley and degrees in anthropology, Japanese, and linguistics from Stanford and UC Santa Cruz, a background that shapes her fiction's fascination with language and social structure. She began publishing short fiction in Analog Science Fiction and Fact and Clarkesworld in the late 2000s, building on the invented society of Varin that she first imagined as a teenager in 1983. That setting grounds her Broken Trust trilogy from DAW Books - Mazes of Power, Transgressions of Power, and Inheritors of Power - which follows the rigid caste politics of an underground civilization through characters navigating its social codes and currents of unrest. Long based in California, she relocated to Melbourne, Australia, in 2022 with her husband and two grown children.
