K. V. Johansen is a Canadian author of fantasy, science fiction, and children's literature, born in 1968 in Kingston, Ontario. She holds master's degrees in medieval studies and English literature from the University of Toronto and lives in Sackville, New Brunswick. Her best-known work is the epic fantasy sequence beginning with Blackdog and continuing through the Marakand duology The Leopard and The Lady, set in a world of gods, caravan roads, and demonic possession. For younger readers she wrote the Torrie Quests adventure series and the science fiction Cassandra Virus trilogy. Johansen has won the Sunburst Award for Blackdog, the Ann Connor Brimer Award for Nightwalker, and the Lilla Stirling Award for Torrie and the Pirate-Queen.
