Kage Baker

Kage Baker (1952-2010) was an American science-fiction and fantasy writer born in Hollywood, California. She is best known for The Company series, beginning with In the Garden of Iden (1997), in which a secretive corporation uses time travel and cyborg immortals to harvest lost art and knowledge from history, continued in novels such as Sky Coyote, Mendoza in Hollywood, and The Empress of Mars. She also wrote the standalone comic fantasy The Anvil of the World. Her novella The Empress of Mars won the Theodore Sturgeon Award (later expanded into a novel of the same name), and her novella The Women of Nell Gwynne's won the Nebula Award; she received multiple Hugo and World Fantasy Award nominations. Before her writing career, Baker worked in theater, and in her later years she was also known as a knowledgeable historian and reviewer of silent films.
