Karin Tidbeck is a Swedish author of fantasy and weird fiction, born in Stockholm in 1977. They debuted in Swedish with the story collection Vem är Arvid Pekon? in 2010, followed by the novel Amatka, a claustrophobic tale of a society where unnamed objects dissolve into formlessness. Their English-language debut, the story collection Jagannath, appeared in 2012 and was shortlisted for the James Tiptree Jr. Award and nominated for the World Fantasy Award; Amatka reached English readers in 2017 to wide acclaim. Tidbeck writes in both Swedish and English and won a Science Fiction & Fantasy Translation Award for the story "Augusta Prima." Their novel The Memory Theater continues their work in surreal, fable-like fantasy grounded in Nordic folklore traditions.
