Kate Danley is an American author and playwright, born in 1977 in Champaign, Illinois. A graduate of Towson University and a Maryland Distinguished Scholar in the Arts, she trained in improv and sketch comedy at Los Angeles's The Groundlings and performed stand-up and comedy theater in Hollywood before turning to fiction. She is a USA Today bestselling author best known for The Woodcutter, a dark fairy-tale fantasy that won the Garcia Award for Best Fiction Book of the Year, and for Queen Mab, which received the McDougall Previews Award for Best Fantasy Book of the Year. Her urban fantasy series Maggie MacKay: Magical Tracker, about a monster hunter working in Hollywood, has been optioned for television development. Danley also remains active as a playwright; her play Building Madness won the Panowski Playwriting Award, and her stage adaptation of Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles received sixteen BroadwayWorld Regional Award nominations.
