Kate Heartfield

Kate Heartfield is a Canadian author of fantasy, science fiction, and horror, born in 1977 in Kitchener, Ontario, and raised in Winnipeg. She holds a degree in political science from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Journalism from Carleton University, and worked as a columnist and editorial-pages editor at the Ottawa Citizen for over a decade before turning to fiction full time; she now lives near Ottawa and teaches journalism and creative writing. Her novel Armed in Her Fashion, a fourteenth-century fantasy of a woman battling an army of monsters to reclaim her husband's fortune, was a finalist for the Aurora Award for Best Novel and the Sunburst Award. Her novella Alice Payne Arrives, opening a time-travel duology, was a finalist for the Nebula Award. She has also written for the Assassin's Creed: The Engine of History series.
