Kemi Ashing-Giwa

Kemi Ashing-Giwa is an American science fiction writer, born in 2000 in California, who wrote her debut novel while a student at Harvard University. The Splinter in the Sky, published by Saga Press in 2023, won the Compton Crook Award for best debut novel and drew starred reviews for the way it used science fiction to examine colonialism, cultural division, and prejudice. She followed it with The King Must Die. Ashing-Giwa has also published short fiction, including "Thin Ice" in Clarkesworld Magazine, which was nominated for the Ignyte Award for Outstanding Short Story. Her work is grounded in political and postcolonial themes rendered through space-opera settings.
