Kerstin Hall

Kerstin Hall is a South African author of science fiction and fantasy. She studied at Rhodes University and earned a master's degree from the University of Cape Town on a Mandela Rhodes scholarship, and has worked within speculative fiction publishing as a fiction editor for sub-Q and an editorial assistant for Beneath Ceaseless Skies. Her novella The Border Keeper introduced a bureaucratic underworld realm and was a finalist for the Nommo Award; she expanded that setting into the Mkalis Cycle novels Star Eater and Second Spear. Her standalone novel Asunder, about a woman with supernatural abilities investigating a string of mysterious deaths, was a finalist for both the Nebula Award and the Locus Award. Hall's fiction is known for inventive, tightly built magic systems and close attention to political and social power structures.
