Kevin O'Donnell, Jr.

Kevin O'Donnell, Jr. (1950-2012) was an American science fiction author born in Cleveland, Ohio, and a Yale University graduate. Over three decades he published more than seventy short stories in magazines including Omni and Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine alongside ten novels translated into six languages. He is best known for The Journeys of McGill Feighan, a space-opera series following a teleporting "flinger" across the galaxy, comprising Caverns, Reefs, Lava, and Cliffs; his standalone novel ORA:CLE won France's Prix Litteraire Mannesmann Tally in 1987. Beyond his fiction, O'Donnell was a longtime volunteer for the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, chairing its Nebula Award jury and grievance committee; SFWA's Service Award was renamed in his honor after his death from lung cancer in 2012.
