Kij Johnson

Kij Johnson (born 1960 in Harlan, Iowa) is an American writer of fantasy and science fiction and an associate professor of fiction writing at the University of Kansas. Before her academic career she worked in publishing at Tor Books and at TSR/Wizards of the Coast, where she managed continuity for Magic: The Gathering and creative direction for Dungeons & Dragons settings. Johnson is one of the genre's most decorated short-fiction writers: her stories "Spar" and "Ponies" each won a Nebula Award for Best Short Story, "26 Monkeys, Also, the Abyss" won a World Fantasy Award for Short Fiction, The Man Who Bridged the Mist won both a Nebula and a Hugo Award for Best Novella, The Privilege of the Happy Ending won a World Fantasy Award for Novella, and her novel The Dream-Quest of Vellitt Boe won a World Fantasy Award for Best Long Fiction. She has also published the novels The Fox Woman and Fudoki.
