KJ Charles is a British author of historical and fantasy romance based in London. After more than twenty years working in publishing, including a stint at Mills & Boon, she began self-publishing in 2013 and has since written more than thirty novels, most of them M/M romances set in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century England. Her breakout work, the Victorian-set A Charm of Magpies trilogy, blends romance with fantasy and the supernatural, and she has continued building interlinked series such as the Think of England books, the Will Darling Adventures, and the London Sequence. Her writing draws on Georgette Heyer, Charles Dickens, and Terry Pratchett. She won a 2014 Rainbow Award for A Case of Possession, was a 2018 RITA Award finalist for Spectred Isle, and signed a three-book deal with Tor Books in 2025.
