L. Penelope, who also writes as Leslye Penelope, is an American author of fantasy and paranormal romance born in the Bronx, New York, "just after the birth of hip-hop." She studied film at Howard University with a minor in computer science, later earning a graduate degree in multimedia and building a career in website development before turning to fiction; she has also worked as an award-winning independent filmmaker and co-founded a literary magazine. Penelope is best known for the Earthsinger Chronicles, an epic fantasy series exploring song-based magic, oppression, and rebellion across an alternate, culturally African-inspired world, alongside its companion novellas and further series including The Cupid Guild and The Bliss Wars. She lives in Maryland with her husband and their pets.
