Laird Hunt

Laird Hunt is an American writer, translator, and academic, born in Singapore in 1968 to an American banker whose work took the family through Amsterdam and London before Hunt was sent to live with his grandmother in Indiana. He earned an MFA from the Jack Kerouac School at Naropa University and worked in the United Nations press office while writing his first novel. His fiction ranges across historical and speculative modes; Neverhome reimagines a woman disguised as a man fighting in the American Civil War, and In the House in the Dark of the Woods draws on New England folklore for a fable of a woman lost in the forest. His novel Kind One won the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for fiction, and Zorrie was a finalist for the National Book Award. Hunt teaches in Brown University's Literary Arts Program and lives in Providence, Rhode Island.
