Laurel Winter

Laurel Winter (born April 22, 1959) is an American writer of fantasy, science fiction, and poetry, born in Columbus, Montana, who attended a one-room schoolhouse as a child. She published her first fantasy story, "Mail Order Eyes," in 1988, and her novella "Sky Eyes" won the World Fantasy Award for Best Novella in 2000, the same year she released her debut novel, Growing Wings, about a girl who unexpectedly grows wings. Winter has also won two Rhysling Awards for speculative poetry, for "Egg Horror Poem" and "Why Goldfish Shouldn't Use Power Tools," both of which also won Asimov's Science Fiction's reader poll, reflecting a career that moves fluidly between prose and verse.
