Laurie J. Marks

Laurie J. Marks is an American fantasy novelist born in 1957 in Newport Beach, California, who studied at Brown University and later taught writing at the University of Massachusetts Boston. She is best known for the Elemental Logic quartet, set in the war-torn world of Shaftal and built around four elemental forms of magic, comprising Fire Logic, Earth Logic, Water Logic, and Air Logic, published between 2002 and 2019. Fire Logic and Earth Logic each won the Gaylactic Spectrum Award for best novel. Her earlier work includes the Children of the Triad trilogy and standalone novels such as The Watcher's Mask and Dancing Jack. Marks was Guest of Honor at the WisCon science fiction convention in 2007, and a serious injury combined with caregiving responsibilities slowed her writing before she resumed work in retirement.
