Les Daniels

Les Daniels (1943-2011) was an American horror novelist and historian of comics and horror fiction. Born in Danbury, Connecticut, he studied at Brown University, where his master's thesis examined Frankenstein, and worked early on as a journalist and musician. Daniels is best known for a sequence of novels following Don Sebastian de Villanueva, a cynical, amoral Spanish nobleman turned vampire who resurfaces across centuries of historical catastrophe: the Spanish Inquisition in The Black Castle, the conquest of the Aztecs in The Silver Skull, the French Revolution's Reign of Terror in Citizen Vampire, and Victorian London and India in Yellow Fog and No Blood Spilled, later gathered as The Don Sebastian Vampire Chronicles. He also edited horror anthologies, including Dying of Fright and Thirteen Tales of Terror, alongside nonfiction studies of the genre's history.
