M. J. Rose

M. J. Rose (1953-2024) was an American novelist and book-marketing executive. A Syracuse University graduate who worked in advertising before turning to fiction, she launched her career in 1998 by self-publishing the psychological thriller Lip Service after traditional publishers rejected it as too hard to categorize; picked up by the Literary Guild, it became one of the first e-books later published by a mainstream house. Rose went on to write the Butterfield Institute thrillers featuring sex therapist Dr. Morgan Snow, and, from 2007, the Reincarnationist series -- including The Reincarnationist, The Memorist, The Hypnotist, and The Book of Lost Fragrances -- blending historical mystery with past-life and supernatural themes; The Reincarnationist inspired the Fox television series Past Life. She lived in Connecticut with composer Doug Scofield.
