M. L. Wang

M. L. Wang is an author of character-driven science fiction and fantasy. Her standalone novel The Sword of Kaigen, a martial-arts epic about a mother and son in a militarized society built on elemental magic, won the 2019 Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off run by author Mark Lawrence before going on to wide acclaim. She later published Blood Over Bright Haven, a dark-academia standalone about a female scholar who discovers the hidden cost of her city's magic, which became a New York Times bestseller after being acquired by Penguin Random House. Wang also writes The Volta Academy Chronicles, a young-adult adventure series, and Destiny's Edge, a sapphic martial-arts fantasy. Her work is consistently marked by intense emotional stakes layered over inventive magic systems.
