Manly Banister

Manly Banister (1914-1986) was an American science fiction author and fan active from the pulp era onward. He began publishing fiction in Weird Tales in 1942 and remained a fixture of fandom for decades, producing the fanzine The Nekromantikon in the early 1950s and the satirical fan work Egoboo. His fiction included the space opera novel Conquest of Earth (1957), in which a resurgent humanity fights to overthrow alien occupiers, and the later novella Magnanthropus, set in the parallel world of Eloraspon. Much of his short fiction has since been gathered in retrospective anthologies such as the Golden Age of Weird Fiction Megapack series. Banister's work is representative of mid-century American pulp science fiction, combining space adventure with the fan-community culture he helped build.
