Maria Lewis

Maria Lewis is an Australian author, screenwriter, and pop-culture journalist, born on New Zealand's South Island and raised on Queensland's Gold Coast, where she began her journalism career as a teenager at the Gold Coast Bulletin. She has written for outlets including The Guardian, Empire, and BuzzFeed, and appeared as a panelist on SBS Viceland's The Feed. Her fiction centers on werewolves and other "female monsters," beginning with her debut novel Who's Afraid? in 2015 and continuing through the Tommi Grayson series, which concluded with Her Fierce Creatures in 2022. She has also written tie-in fiction, including a Mockingbird novel for Marvel and Daughter of No One for the Assassin's Creed Mirage game. Lewis is an Aurealis Award-winning fantasy novelist and also won a 2022 AWGIE Award for audio non-fiction. At twenty-two she survived a stroke and now serves as an ambassador for the Australian Stroke Foundation.
