Maria V. Snyder (born 1973) is an American author of fantasy and science fiction. She holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University and a graduate degree in writing popular fiction from Seton Hill University, and worked as a meteorologist, an experience she has drawn on in her fiction. She is best known for the Chronicles of Ixia, beginning with her debut novel Poison Study (2005), winner of the Compton Crook Award, which follows a condemned prisoner offered a reprieve as a royal poison taster; the series continues through the Glass trilogy and the Healer trilogy, all set in the interconnected lands of Ixia and Sitia. Snyder has also written the science fiction Insider duology and, more recently, the Sentinels of the Galaxy and Archives of the Invisible Sword series. Beyond writing, her interests include photography, jewelry-making, and playing cello.
