Mark S. Geston

Mark S. Geston is an American science fiction writer and attorney. Born in 1946 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, he began writing his debut novel, Lords of the Starship, at nineteen while a sophomore at Kenyon College; published in 1967, it imagines an Earth three thousand years after civilization's collapse, where a declining nation pursues a generations-long project to build a starship, its bleak, ironic tone anticipating later dying-earth science fiction. After earning a law degree from New York University, Geston continued the same fractured world through Out of the Mouth of the Dragon and The Day Star, later gathered with Lords of the Starship in the omnibus The Books of the Wars. He returned to fiction after a long gap with The Siege of Wonder and Mirror to the Sky, maintaining a parallel career as a practicing lawyer throughout.
