Markus Heitz is a German fantasy, horror, and science fiction author born in Homburg, Saarland, who studied history, literature, and the German language before turning to writing full time. He is best known internationally for The Dwarves, a high-fantasy series beginning with the eponymous novel and continuing through The War of the Dwarves and The Return of the Dwarves, following the dwarf clans of a fictional realm against invading dark forces; the books have been translated into numerous languages. His other work available in English includes the epic fantasy series The Legends of the Älfar and the contemporary horror series Doors, alongside a wider body of vampire and dark-fantasy fiction published in German. Heitz lives in Zweibrücken, Germany.
