Marta Randall

Marta Randall is an American science fiction writer born in 1948 in Mexico City. Her Kennerin Saga, beginning with Islands (1976, a Nebula Award finalist) and continuing with Journey (1978) and Dangerous Games (1980), follows a sprawling family across generations of interstellar settlement. She has also written standalone novels, including the fantasy The Sword of Winter (1983) and Those Who Favor Fire (1984), alongside numerous short stories. With Robert Silverberg, Randall edited several volumes of the New Dimensions anthology series and The Nebula Awards #19, and has also published under the pseudonym Martha Conley. In 1981 she became the first woman to serve as president of the Science Fiction Writers of America. She has taught writing at Clarion East, Clarion West, UC Berkeley, and Portland State University.
