Mary Anne Mohanraj is an American writer of Sri Lankan Tamil descent, born in 1971 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She holds degrees from the University of Chicago, Mills College, and a PhD from the University of Utah, and has taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago since 2008. Her novel-in-stories Bodies in Motion (2005) received an Asian American Literary Award honorable mention and was named a USA Today notable book; her other fiction includes The Stars Change (2013) and Perennial (2018). Mohanraj has also written extensively in shared universes, contributing stories to George R. R. Martin's Wild Cards series and to the Tremontaine serial. An active editor and community-builder, she co-founded Strange Horizons and the Speculative Literature Foundation.
