Matthew J. Gilbert

Matthew J. Gilbert is an American author working primarily in licensed tie-in fiction for young readers. He wrote Stranger Things: Hawkins Horrors, a 2022 collection of short horror stories narrated from different characters' perspectives within the Stranger Things franchise, and has continued into the show's junior novelizations, adapting its television seasons for younger readers. Gilbert has also written Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles junior novels, including Showdown with Shredder and Mutant Mayhem!, and co-created the middle-grade series Classroom 13. Elsewhere, he has collaborated with author Rex Ogle, credited alongside him and illustrator Joëlle Dreidemy on children's fiction published under Ogle's pseudonym Honest Lee. Gilbert's work spans several licensed properties aimed at middle-grade and younger readers, translating existing screen franchises into accessible prose for series fans.
