Matthew Joseph Harrington is an American science fiction writer born in 1960 in Yokosuka, Japan. He is a longtime contributor to Larry Niven's Man-Kzin Wars series, writing stories such as "String," "Red Tide," and "Teacher's Pet" that expand the Known Space setting's lore around the warlike Kzinti, and he co-wrote "Aquila Advenio" with Hal Colebatch for Man-Kzin Wars XII. His best-known work outside that shared universe is The Goliath Stone (2013), a novel co-written with Niven and Brenda Cooper about nanotechnology run amok. Harrington's fiction is grounded in hard-science extrapolation and dry humor, hallmarks of the Known Space tradition he has helped extend for well over a decade.
