Matthew Ward is the fiction-writing name of Matt Ward, a British game designer known for his long career at Games Workshop writing background material for Warhammer Fantasy Battles, Warhammer 40,000, and The Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game, including frequent contributions to White Dwarf magazine. Writing as Matthew Ward, he has published novels since 2014, including tie-in fiction for the Frostgrave tabletop game, such as Oathgold: A Tale of the Frozen City (2018), and his own epic fantasy Legacy trilogy, comprising Legacy of Ash (2019), Legacy of Steel (2020), and Legacy of Light (2021). He followed it with the Soulfire Saga, beginning with The Darkness Before Them (2023) and continuing through The Fire Within Them (2024) and The Lie That Binds Them (2025).
