Michael Cobley is a British science-fiction and fantasy writer born in 1959 in Leicester, England, who now lives in Glasgow, Scotland. A member of the Glasgow Science Fiction Writers Circle, he trained as an engineer before turning to fiction full time. He is best known for the Shadowkings trilogy -- Shadowkings, Shadowgod, and Shadowmasque, the last shortlisted for a British Fantasy Award -- a dark epic fantasy of gods and sorcery, and for the Humanity's Fire space-opera sequence, beginning with Seeds of Earth, in which a lost human colony is caught up in a war among alien empires. His work draws on the influence of writers such as Frank Herbert, David Brin, and Iain M. Banks.
