Mike Ashley

Mike Ashley is a British bibliographer, editor, and historian of speculative fiction, born in 1948 and based in Chatham, Kent. He is best known for editing more than fifty volumes in the "Mammoth Book of..." anthology series, covering science fiction, fantasy, horror, and other genres, and for his multi-volume History of the Science Fiction Magazines, a landmark study of the pulp and digest era. His other major works include the reference volume The Supernatural Index and Starlight Man, a biography of weird-fiction writer Algernon Blackwood, and he has curated exhibitions and anthologies for the British Library. Ashley's scholarship has earned him the Edgar Allan Poe Award for Best Critical/Biographical Work, a Bram Stoker Award for Best Non-Fiction, the Science Fiction Research Association's Pilgrim Award, and a Hugo Award nomination, across a career spanning more than 100 published nonfiction books and anthologies.
